How Would you Ensure A Safe Approach To Personal Training A Client After Shoulder Dislocation?

First:

1) Get more information from referring physicians on any contraindications. If contraindications exist, don’t do them.

2) Get more information from the rehab specialist

3) What are the client’s goals?

Remember, you’re not a clinician - you’re a trainer. If someone has physician clearance you should be clear to train compound movements. Stay in your lane and scope of practice.

4) Use graded exposure to build strength in horizontal and vertical pushing/pulling while allowing your client to reach his/her goals

5) Get feedback(Pain, enjoyment) from the client and modify Load, ROM, Volume, Intensity as needed.

Don’t try to be something you’re not. We are personal trainers, not clinicians. Refer back to a clinician as needed!
