What Are The Things You Anticipated Doing As A Personal Trainer, But Happen Very Rarely?

College and certifications don’t prep you at all for the realities of personal training. Here’s what surprised me!

  1. Working with athletes! (Athletes don’t pay)

  2. Stretching/Mobility/ Foam Rolling/ Movement Screen (Science is iffy, at best!)

  3. Correct biomechanics (Everyone moves differently, has different anthropometrics and, once more, science is iffy!)

  4. Linear Periodization/ Periodization in general (There’s a craze of novelty within the client population regarding ‘functional movement’ and the like. They want variety! Look at crossfit’s popularity)

  5. 100% adherence and no balking at programming

  6. People come to me for my training expertise, nope! Personal training is a personality-based business. They buy YOU.

  7. A more collaborative environment between specialists - hard to come by!

College only gives you a small amount of the actual skills you need to succeed as a personal trainer.

Ideally, using this knowledge you can be one step ahead of the pack and achieve your ideal personal training practice in no time!
